World Cancer Day Is February 4

February 4, 2015

During Cancer Prevention Month, World Cancer Day is a day for raising worldwide awareness about preventing, detecting, and providing treatment for cancer. Many people around the world do not have access to information about cancer prevention or access to resources to prevent or treat cancer. That's why the Union for International Cancer Control established World Cancer Day to help spread awareness.

Spreading Awareness Makes A Difference

This year's World Cancer Day campaign will focus on promoting healthy life choices, early cancer detection, treatment for all people, and maximizing people's quality of life.

Worldcancerday.org lists the five most common risk factors for cancer as UV light exposure, alcohol consumption, poor diet, smoking, and lack of physical activity. However, worldcancerday.org states that many places in the world have a stigma against cancer, and this stigma makes it challenging to start public discussion about cancer’s risk factors. Avoiding these risk factors can prevent many cases of cancer around the world, making World Cancer Day an important awareness day.

Everyone Can Help Spread Awareness

You don't have to be in the medical field to help spread awareness about the common risk factors for cancer. Sharing accurate information about cancer prevention with your friends, family and community can make a real difference in the lives of people around you!

One simple thing you can do to spread awareness is to share information and spread the word via social media. Check out the Union for International Cancer Control's Social Media Guide for tips on how to spread awareness on your social media channels. The Social Media Guide also has examples of facts you can tweet or share on your other channels. #WorldCancerDay is the event hashtag for World Cancer Day.

Even a generic message can help spread awareness. See some generic message samples here. Don't be shy about sharing information – it could save lives!

Donate A Vehicle To Make A Difference On World Cancer Day

Here at Wheels For Wishes we care about sharing health information and helping to spread awareness. We also love helping Make-A-Wish through our car donation program. Many children are facing critical illnesses such as cancer. You can help make life a little brighter for children in your community when you donate a car to benefit your local chapter of Make-A-Wish.

When children have a wish to look forward to, it gives them more hope, strength and joy during a difficult time in their lives. If you would like to help a wish come true for a child in your community, consider donating your car, truck, boat, RV or motorcycle today! Simply give us a call at 1-855-278-9474 or take a moment to fill out our online donation form
