Looking for some help with transferring your car title or donating a car in Missouri? Here is the ultimate guide to Missouri title questions:
Q:Where do I sign the Title?
A:On the back of the Title please sign where it reads “Signature of Seller(s)” and below that “Printed names of Seller(s).”
Q:I paid off my car but there is still a lienholder listed?
The lienholder should have provided a Lien Release or completed the Lien Release section on Title when it was paid off. If a Lien Release is required please contact your financial institution. We will request one if necessary directly from the bank or other financial institution on your behalf but may need a written authorization and copy of your driver’s license.
Q:What do I put down for the Buyer?
A:We prefer it be left blank along with the odometer reading as the processing partner will record the exact reading at time of processing and handle the buyer and dealer license information.
Information that is provided by the processing partner may be put in the buyer section.
Q:Can I still donate if I can’t find my Title?
A:We will still attempt to process your donation without the title, though the process may be a bit more complicated.

Q:I’m donating the vehicle on behalf of Deceased loved one, what do I need to provide?
A:If the vehicle had sole ownership – A probate court order must be submitted authorizing the administrator or executor to transfer the Title. We also have to have a certified copy of the final order submitted to the court, the person appointed must sign on behalf of the owner as a personal representative, administrator etc. Also, we need either a copy of the Death Certificate OR a copy of the obituary.
If there are multiple owners on the Title – If with one owner is deceased, the remaining owners must sign the Title and provide us with a copy of the Death Certificate.
Transfer on Death (ToD) on face of Title – ToD signs as seller with a copy of the Death Certificate.
Per DMV – Missouri does not issue Tenants in Common
Q:How do I release the liability and what do I do with my plates?
A:The donor must remove the license plates before the time of pick up and check with their local Motor Vehicle Bureau to determine whether they need to be returned. Also, the donor must complete a Notice of Sale within 30 days to the Department of Revenue. Sellers, other than Missouri licensed dealers, must submit a completed Notice of Sale (Form 5049) form to report the sale. Owner should complete the Notice of Sale or Transfer attached to the bottom of the vehicle title, then detach and mail OR If the bottom portion of the title is missing, a Notice of Sale (Form 5049) can be completed and mailed to the Department of Revenue by mail.
Q:Will you take a vehicle that has mechanical problems?
A:Vehicles are reviewed and sent to a processing partner, however if we are unable to find a buyer for the vehicle, we will have to unfortunately decline the donation.
*Boats, RV’s, ATV, Campers or industrial equipment are taken on a case by case basis*
